Healthy Schools
Healthy Schools has existed since 1999, and we are proud at Blakesley to have been associated with the programme since the early years. Originally the
awards’ of Healthy School status in Bronze, Silver and Gold was awarded by the Local Authority. Blakesley had achieved both Bronze and Silver status and
were working towards Gold status when the organisation changed. This change involved the award being centralised and schools are now judged against national
standards as opposed to the previous local one.

In the spring of 2010 we were assessed against the national standard and were awarded Health Schools Status.
However that is not the end, the school is required to review their submissions after 2 years and are reassessed after 3 years.
The assessment process involves
providing evidence for good practice in 4 areas of children’s development, PSHE (personal, social and health education), physical activity, healthy eating and
emotional health and well being. Alongside this evidence a significant sample of pupils over all Key Stages fill in an online questionnaire. The results of
which are collated by the healthy schools team. These results are then used to verify the assessments made by the school and to decide areas of focus for the
development of our provision in the 4 areas.
